A very easy to operate "Do-it-Yourself ” device is the most handy tool for the bike owners.
This innovation is a low cost, portable, compact aid to inflate tyre tubes/punctures of any vehicle, particularly two-wheelers, having kick start or auto start mechanism. One can fix the problem on the spot so that the vehicle can reach the nearby gas station or repair shop.
This device converts the compressor of two-wheeler into an air pump. A pinch of polymer granules is also inserted in the tube to seal the leakage. The user can kick and fill air in the tube. This may last for a few kilometers to reach a puncture repairing shop. An entrepreneur from Mumbai has taken non-exclusive license for this technology and has sold more than 5000 pieces so far, mainly in North Eastern India. |

At present the buttonhole machine industry is underdeveloped in India. The machines are usually imported from Japan, U.K. and USA. Companies like Singer, Virkler and Usha are manufacturing this machine. The machines available in the market are not user-friendly and also expensive. The imported machine is very complex in nature and difficult to repairs and maintain. The price range of these is around Rs. 60000/- to Rs. 150000. Spare parts of the machines are also not available locally and authorized workshops are to be approached for repairing and servicing the machine.
Being a technician of the buttonhole machine, innovator Shri Anil Kamdar has realized the need of users during the experience of last 20 years. He has identified the lacuna of the conventional machine available in the market and thought of developing the low cost users friendly buttonhole machine. In 1999, he has purchased the old body of the conventional machine from the secondary market and started working on it. He himself designed and developed certain component and procured some standard components from the market. After a hard work of three years, he has developed low cost and simple user friendly buttonhole machine. On an average, this machine can do 100 – 120 buttonholes per hour. |

For the rain-dependent farmers, equipment for lifting water from the ground plays an important role in farming. As farmers face acute water scarcity due to dropping water table, accessing natural sources of under ground water has become important. The fact remains that there is no pump in the market that satisfies the farmer’s requirement completely.
In order to fill this gap, Mr. Budhubha Jadeja, a farmer of the Kutchh region has conceptualized the idea of using the Double Acting Reciprocating Pump with a balancing mechanism. The single acting pumps, habitually used in rural Kutchh, draw water from the ground in alternative strokes. With Budhuba’s simple alternation water can be drawn from the ground continuously. |

The working prototype is currently undergoing testing at Nirma Institute of Technology. Following certification from the Institute, a final prototype will be developed. GIAN invites collaboration from interested business parties to commercialize the product. |

In everyday life one has to deal with hot plates and vessels regularly, mostly in kitchen. To avoid the high temperature, one either uses some insulators or some sort of gadgets, which are very expensive in the market. Tongs are one of the commonly used gadgets used for these purposes. It is basically a utensil-holding device inevitable in any kitchen, laboratory and mechanical workshop. Tongs available on the market are often clumsy and invariable unsatisfactory for the user. In most of the cases they are unreliable and cause accidents. Shri Arvindbhai Patel took the challenge for designing an innovative tong. He keenly watched the functioning of the common household tongs and discussed the problems with the potential users. From the feedbacks which he obtained about the conventional tongs, he designed a gadget, which is closest to their requirements. Also it is user-friendly and very cheap as compared to the conventional tongs available in the market. |

Usually, the process of making a tie and dye' silk saree in Pochampally tradition begins with the selection of silk thread. Using the process of Asu, a triangular shape is given to the threads and designs are drawn on this shape. Tying is done where required as per the design and the threads are then dyed in selected colours. Once dried and untied, the dyed silk threads are rolled into spindles. The spindles are used appropriately in looms and the saree is woven.The Laxmi Asu machine, created by Mallesham in Andhra Pradesh, has relieved women from 8-9 hours of labour everyday.
